Success with Unemployment Compensation Claims
…….Advanced HR Practices

Have you ever wondered what the best way is to present information to the UC office when questioned?  Do you read through the UC questionnaire and think, “This just doesn’t fit the situation”, but not know what to do about it?  Have you ever been frustrated after receiving a decision from the UC office in which they just didn’t seem to understand the situation?

If you answered yes to any one of those questions, then this program is a must see!

Whether you’ve just started handling UC claims or have been doing it for 20 years, everyone who has responsibility for managing unemployment compensation claims for his or her organization will gain valuable insight from attending this program.  Rebecca Yoskoski, who has 30 years of experience working in the unemployment field and is the Manager of Claims at the Scranton Unemployment Compensation office, will provide us with some exceptionally valuable information on how to present your case successfully to the UC office.  She will discuss what willful misconduct means in the world of UC and…how to prove it!  She will outline all of the various reasons a claimant might be denied benefits under the UC system and discuss what the key points are for employers to know both before and after the discharge to build a successful case.

Becky is a popular speaker throughout NEPA with her relaxed, but informative style.  NEPA SHRM is fortunate to have her come to our group.  Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

August 14

Fostering a Respect for Diverse Religious Beliefs in the Workplace

You have posted your EEO posters about religious discrimination, you have established polices and conducted training on religious discrimination – now that you have covered the “legal” bases on this topic, its time to go a step further to create a climate of respect for the ever-increasing variety of religious expression in the Northeast Pennsylvania workplace.

The workshop facilitator, Arthur W. Breese, M.S., M.A. is the Director of Diversity at Geisinger Health System. He is also a member of the Luzerne County Diversity Taskforce and a member of the Wilkes-Barre branch of the NAACP.

Arthur will lead an inter-active workshop designed to create an awareness of the expanding spectrum of religious expressions within our organizations. Workshop participants will examine the realities and challenges presented by the intersection of religion and workplace such as carrying, use and display of religious implements and symbols; belief-mandated clothing and hairstyles; accommodation for participation in religious services; and issues related to workplace sponsored observances. Participants will also explore the concept of privilege and how that impacts religion in the workplace.
