Qualifications: All candidates for local membership must have an active membership in SHRM. All members must maintain their active membership with SHRM in order to be considered active members. Memberships are individual and are not transferable to other individuals.

Individuals who are engaged in human resource management with at least three years experience at the exempt level *; or Individuals who are certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute; or Individuals who are faculty members with three or more years experience holding assistant, associate or full professional rank in human resources at an accredited institution of higher education.
Professional members shall have voting rights, may serve on committees and the Board of Directors, and mayhold office in the Corporation.
Individuals who have a bonafide interest in human resource management because they have ownership interest in or managerial responsibilities for a business which is actively engaged in the practice of a human resource management specialty including, but not limited to, employment services, Outplacement assistance, wellness programs,training and development programs, benefits programs, compensation plans, payroll services, employee assistance programs, search services or employee communication programs; or Individuals who are engaged in human resource management at the exempt level* with less than three years experience; or Individuals who are consultants or instructors in human resources; or Individuals who are directly engaged in human resource management within an organization at the non-exempt* level.
General members shall have voting rights, may serve on committees and the Board of Directors, but may not hold office in the Corporation.
Individuals who are on layoff but who previously held a position which would have qualified for membership under one of the two categories above, shall have rights consistent with that category. Upon re-employment, the category of membership will be determined by the individual’s current position. Individuals who do not meet any of the foregoing categories but have a bona fide interest in human resource management would also qualify for Associate Membership.
*Exempt and non-exempt shall be defined by regulations under the Fair Labor
Standards Act promulgated by theUnited States Department of Labor.
