Ms. Baker provides advice and counseling to
employers on a wide range of labor and employment law issues, including
compliance with federal and state employment discrimination laws; leave
laws; immigration; wrongful discharge; wage and hour compliance; privacy
concerns, OSHA, and unemployment compensation. She represents employers in
employment discrimination cases before the Pennsylvania Human Relations
Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the courts.
She regularly advises employers on personnel matters, such as preparation
and revision of personnel policies and employee handbooks, hiring
procedures, leaves of absence, and discipline/termination. Ms. Baker
develops interactive training programs dealing with the issues that are of
greatest concern to companies today. She has counseled and trained
supervisors, managers and Human Resources Professionals on topics such as
workplace diversity, sexual harassment, discrimination, equal opportunity,
litigation avoidance, immigration compliance, and many other substantive
employment areas. Ms. Baker received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Communications from Ithaca College
(with minors in Sociology and Writing), and her Juris Doctor degree cum
laude from The Catholic University Columbus School of Law in Washington,
DC in 1995. At Catholic, she was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award
in both evidence and torts and served as Associate Editor of the Law
School’s Health Law Journal. Ms. Baker regularly writes for legal and
other specialized employment-related publications and frequently presents
seminars and continuing education courses on employment topics to legal,
business, professional and human resources organizations. She is a member
of the Labor and Employment Law Sections of both the Pennsylvania and the
American Bar Associations and was presented with the 2006 Exemplary
Service Award by the Lackawanna Bar Association. |
